Paul Kotzebue is a registered Professional Engineer with over 30 years experience in yacht design, boat
building, and commercial naval architecture. Paul has worked on all types of boats from small plywood
sailboats to large luxury yachts, commercial boats, and military craft. Over the years he has been involved at
the highest level of yacht design, working in the offices of Bruce King, Dick Carter, Gary Mull, Nelson/Marek,
Reichel/Pugh, Arthur DeFever, Jack Sarin, and Doug Sharp. The photos on this page are of boats that Paul
has designed in his own right.
In addition to work on yachts, Paul has worked on commercial boats and military craft. He was the principal
designer of the Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull vessel Frederick G. Creed and the principal naval architect
for the U.S. Navy's new 85 foot Torpedo Weapons Retrievers. One of his more noteworthy designs is the
Tiffany Jayne class cruising sloop built by C&B Marine. Paul's hands on experience includes stints as a
boatbuilder with Gerard Boat Company in Santa Barbara and Knight & Carver Marine Construction in San
Diego.
Paul Kotzebue is a graduate of Yacht Design Institute and has studied Mechanical Engineering at the University
of California at Berkeley and San Diego State University. Paul is licensed to practice engineering in the states
of California and Washington.
